Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety Databases

For those with an interest in occupational health and safety, the Kellogg Library has purchased an unlimited access license for Dalhousie for all of the databases from the Academic Support Program (ASP) of the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS). Note that access is for the databases in the "Web Collections" portion of the website; it does not include access to the supplements.

Our license offers access to the following databases and collections: MSDS Material Safety Data Sheets from manufacturers and suppliers, RTECS® Registry of Toxic Effects of Chemical Substances, CHEMINFO Comprehensive health and safety information on pure chemicals, and OSH References: OSHLINE, NIOSHTIC, NIOSHTIC-2, HSELINE, CISILO, and Canadiana.

Canadian Electronic Library

Three collections within the "Canadian Electronic Library" from Gibson Library Connections have been purchased for Dalhousie users on the "ebrary"™ platform. Individual titles will be accessible through the Novanet Catalogue.

• Canadian Publishers Collection
  This collection provides online access to non-fiction and reference books from Canadian commercial publishers as well as from non-profit and public-sector organizations. More information can be found on the Gibson Library Connections website.
• Canadian Public Policy Collection
  This is a collection of monograph publications from Canadian public policy institutes, government agencies, advocacy groups, think-tanks, university research centres and other public interest groups. The organizations included in this collection represent the leading edge of primary research and opinion in all areas of Canadian public policy. Their publications are vital to the understanding of developing issues in every arena of Canadian public life. Over 8000 titles with new titles added every year.
• Canadian Health Research Collection
  This is a collection of monograph publications from Canadian research institutes, government agencies and university centres working in the area of health and medical research. The organizations included in this collection are very active publishers of primary research in the field. The publications included are both general policy documents as well as those of a specialized technical nature. Over 3000 titles with new titles added every year.

Medieval Travel Writing

This project provides an extensive collection of manuscript materials for the study of medieval travel writing in fact and in fantasy. The core of the material is a magnificent collection of medieval manuscripts from libraries around the world and dating from the 13th to the 16th centuries. The main focus is accounts of journeys to the Holy Land, India and China. The original documents are in a range of languages including French, Latin, German, Spanish, Dutch and English. Supporting the manuscripts are relevant secondary texts of translations and editions. In addition there is a gallery of maps and images, a bibliography and chronology, and a slideshow.

Environment Complete (trial ends November 25)

Offers deep coverage in applicable areas of agriculture, ecosystem ecology, energy, renewable energy sources, natural resources, marine & freshwater science, geography, pollution & waste management, environmental technology, environmental law, public policy, social impacts, urban planning, and more. Environment Complete contains more than 1,957,000 records from more than 1,700 domestic and international titles going back to the 1940s (including 1,125 active core titles) as well as more than 120 monographs. The database also contains full text for more than 680 journals.

Empire Online

Offers over 70,000 images of original documents relating to Empire Studies. The images are sourced from libraries and archives around the world, including a strong core of document images from the British Library. There is both manuscript and printed material and a broad range of document types, written from both the European and the non-European perspective and covering all continents. A number of documents relate the story of Empire from French, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese and German points of view, as well as from indigenous peoples from Africa, India and North America. The focus of the project is on original documents and thus a number of these texts are not in English.

Eighteenth Century Journals I & II

This digital project brings together rare journals printed between c1685 and 1815, illuminating all aspects of eighteenth-century social, political and literary life. Topics covered are extremely wide-ranging and include: the writings of Sir Isaac Newton; the French Revolution; reviews of literature and fashion throughout Europe; political debates; and coffee house gossip and discussion. Eighteenth Century Journals I contains material from the Hope Collection at the Bodleian Library, Oxford. The Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center holds one of the finest collections of 17th and 18th century newspapers and periodicals in the world, and it was from here that items for Eighteenth Century Journals II were selected.
