Empire Online

Offers over 70,000 images of original documents relating to Empire Studies. The images are sourced from libraries and archives around the world, including a strong core of document images from the British Library. There is both manuscript and printed material and a broad range of document types, written from both the European and the non-European perspective and covering all continents. A number of documents relate the story of Empire from French, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese and German points of view, as well as from indigenous peoples from Africa, India and North America. The focus of the project is on original documents and thus a number of these texts are not in English.

Eighteenth Century Journals I & II

This digital project brings together rare journals printed between c1685 and 1815, illuminating all aspects of eighteenth-century social, political and literary life. Topics covered are extremely wide-ranging and include: the writings of Sir Isaac Newton; the French Revolution; reviews of literature and fashion throughout Europe; political debates; and coffee house gossip and discussion. Eighteenth Century Journals I contains material from the Hope Collection at the Bodleian Library, Oxford. The Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center holds one of the finest collections of 17th and 18th century newspapers and periodicals in the world, and it was from here that items for Eighteenth Century Journals II were selected.

Online Portal to Library Resources for Undergrad Medicine

The Kellogg Library is pleased to announce a new online portal to library resources for undergraduate medicine. This portal is designed and maintained by librarians at the Kellogg to assist students in beginning their research on a variety of learning issues.

Intended as a jumping-off point for library resources, the guide provides quick, easy, one-stop access to a variety of resources such as databases and electronic books. It is arranged by year, then by unit and subject-specific resources are featured for each. The guide also features instant messaging access to a librarian who can assist you.

We hope the guide will provide more user-friendly access to the multitude of resources available from the library, as well as a direct link to our staff. In order to make it a success, we need your input. Each page of the guide features a user feedback box which is completely anonymous and goes directly to a librarian. Contact options including instant messaging, email and Facebook are also listed on the guide.

Defining Gender, 1459-1910

A full-text primary source digital collection, this database of material from British and European archives will enrich the teaching and research experience of those studying history, literature, sociology, education and cultural studies from a gendered perspective. Documents include ephemera, pamphlets, college records and exam papers, commonplace books, diaries, periodicals, letters, ledgers, account books, educational practice and pedagogy, government papers from the Home Office and Metropolitan police, illustrated writings on anatomy, midwifery, art and fashion, manuscript journals, poetry, novels, ballads, drama, receipt books, literary manuscripts, travel writing, and conduct and advice literature.

China: Trade, Politics & Culture 1793-1980

One of seven full-text retrospective databases from Adam Matthew Digital, this digital collection answers a need for clear, intelligible and informative English-language sources relating to China and the West, 1793-1980, which can be accessed online and used in the classroom or in course packs. The database offers primary source materials including manuscripts, letters, documents and over 400 colour paintings, interactive historical maps, and drawings by English and Chinese artists, as well as countless photographs, sketches and ephemeral items, depicting Chinese people, places, customs and events. Materials are sourced from the School of Oriental and African Studies and the British Library, London.
