Cambridge Histories Online (login required, see below) is a unique online historical reference compendium. The Cambridge Histories, long established in the collections of academic research libraries around the world, are now available online for the first time. This diverse, up to date and authoritative collection brings the texts to life and offers improved access to the content of the print editions, which have been published since the 1960s. CHO contains over 250 volumes, equal to approximately 196,000 pages of text, and covers more than 15 different academic subjects.

Community of Scholars Research Support Suite (Trial ends July 31/08)
The COS Research Support Suite includes three databases which are available on the CSA Illumina search platform, for which access is automatic, and another on the COS platform, which requires a login. The Research Support Suite is comprised of a collation of resources related to the research process, namely:
COS Funding Opportunities with Alerts: A compiled database of available opportunities for grants, fellowships, prizes and other type of funding. It is an extensive database with opportunities for recipients anywhere in the world, working in any discipline.
COS Scholar Universe: Provides authoritative information about more than 1.5 million scholars and organizations around the world, together with verified affiliation and publication information. The database includes information on international faculty at 4-year universities and their departments. Scholar Universe is a unique tool for identifying researchers by specific area of study, providing keyword access to the community behind the content.
PapersInvited: Provides a perspective on non-periodic publication opportunities. The database consists of detailed information and deadlines about calls for papers for forthcoming conferences and special issues of scholarly journals. These calls for papers are issued by professional bodies, journal editors and other conference organizers in all disciplines and from all over the world. Thus, the database serves as an alerting service for researchers, scholars and students that are seeking opportunities to present and publish their research.
COS Expertise: Works in conjunction with Scholar Universe to enable researchers to enhance the profiles by adding first-person information such as language skills, photos, honors/awards, associations, patents held, and grants received. Login using the following:

Published by University of Toronto Press since 1920 as a continuation of the Review of Historical Publications Relating to Canada, the Canadian Historical Review (CHR) offers an analysis of the ideas, people, and events that have molded Canadian society and institutions into their present state. Canada's past is examined from a vast and multicultural perspective to provide a thorough assessment of all influences. Download Fulltext Dissertations & Theses
For some time, Dalhousie faculty, students and staff have been able to download the full-text of all post-1996 Dalhousie (including DalTech) dissertations and many theses from ProQuest Dissertations and Theses database. Now, thanks to the Dalhousie Libraries, they can download the full text of ALL post-1996 theses and dissertations available from this source.
With more than 2.4 million entries, ProQuest Dissertations & Theses is the most comprehensive collection of dissertations and theses in the world. UMI offers over 2 million titles for purchase in microfilm or paper formats. More than 930,000 are available in PDF format for immediate free download, and an average of 2,000 new PDFs are added to the database each week. The Dalhousie Libraries subscribe to ProQuest Dissertations and Theses which is available via Novanet or the Databases search on our website.

New SpringerLink eBooks and eJournals
Dalhouse University Libraries, as a member of the Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN), has acquired for the Dalhousie community substantial holdings in SpringerLink, Springer's online content. Springer is one of the world's leading publishers of books and journals in science, technology and medicine.
Dalhousie's holdings in SpringerLink include the complete archive of and ongoing subscriptions to more than 1300 journals (i.e. the journal content goes back to vol. 1). We have also just acquired the complete catalogue of Springer ebooks (over 13,000 titles) from 2005 on. This catalogue includes imprints other than Springer, as well as many "books in series" and reference works.
